Motivation
Motivation is such a key part of Agile that I thought it deserved its own page. The idea is to give people the freedom to choose to do the work themselves. They are waiting, willing, and wanting to do it (cf. My Fair Lady).
See the famous Herzberg HBR article here. See particulrly the retrospective commentary.
One should be careful not to get too wrapped up in motivation. Pope said we are beings "darkly wise and rudely great." Agile deals with both sides of our humanity. Agile (Scrum) also deals with many other things, perhaps most importantly, delivering more business value sooner.
